Match Report
The Vikings racked up another win on Saturday thanks to a good team performance.
Matthew Etchells gave Buxton an early lead in the 2nd minute slotting the ball home after a skilful run and cross from Zach Moss. Spartans could have equalised soon after when they were awarded a penalty for handball. It was a good penalty but Vikings 'keeper Jackson Baker stood firm and pulled off a great save to keep the Vikings lead intact. Further good work by Lewis Gannon and Alexander Hughes ensured that the Vikings went in at half time still in the lead.
The second half started with a Spartans chance but the ball was scrambled away by the Buxton defence, who were excellently marshalled by Tiernan McDonald. Goalkeeper Baker was inspirational and came to the rescue with a succession of wonder saves to deny the equaliser. Vikings fought back with substitutes James Tarr, Elliot Booth and Harry Griffin all making admirable contributions and subsequently increased their lead after a well worked Joe Turner goal. The Spartans continued to work tirelessly and their reward came soon after, scoring with a rebound after Baker had made a double save.
Overall Buxton took their chances and that was what made them the winners on this occasion.
