Match Report

The Vikings turned in a battling performance once again to take all 3 points in a close encounter. They were very nearly in the lead early on when a superbly struck Callum Holmes free kick flashed narrowly over the bar. Vikings continued to apply pressure but the Sonics were brave in defence and held out until Matthew Etchells weaved some magic in the box to tuck the ball away in the bottom corner putting the Vikings 1 up.

Sonics then bounced into life but found captain Alexander Hughes and Jack Tomlinson strong in defence with some great tackles. James Tarr held his position well in midfield protecting his defence which was soon bolstered by the arrival of Elliot Booth and Lewis Gannon who carried on where the others had left off. Zach Moss and Joe Turner continued to be a threat down the wings as the Vikings went in search of the killer goal. Jackson Baker was once again steady as a rock in goals but was left helpless when good pressure from a Sonics corner forced the equaliser. The game seemed to be heading for a draw when the ball fell to Callum Holmes about 20 yards out – his quick thinking lob was dispatched expertly over the Sonics’ keeper and into the net to give the Vikings the lead and ultimately seal all 3 points.

It was another good team performance to ensure the Vikings continued their impressive start to their first season in the league.
