Match Report
The Vikings faced their sternest test yet as they came up against top of the table and free scoring Jaguars. It didn’t take long to see why they have scored so many goals when they took an early lead. Vikings response was swift when a defence splitting pass from Harry Griffin found Joe Turner who scrambled the ball home. Despite good defensive work from Tiernan McDonald and Lewis Gannon, the Jaguars continued pressure resulted in another goal taking them into a 2-1 lead at half time.
The second half saw the Vikings come out with renewed spirit and determination typified by Alexander Hughes battling for every ball in midfield. Zach Moss continued to work tirelessly down the wing but the Viking were dealt a blow when a thunderbolt of a shot from the Jaguars resulted in another goal putting them 3-1 ahead.
The Vikings didn’t let their heads drop and continued to fight back. With Jack Tomlinson holding the defence steady and Jackson Baker’s safe handling in goal, they came back into the game. It was Matthew Etchells who once again weaved his magic on the right and picked out Callum Holmes who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. The Vikings were now on the up and with just a few minutes to go Tiernan McDonald’s perfectly weighted pass found the ever dangerous Holmes who once again coolly slotted home to bring the Vikings level 3-3. The last minute saw the Vikings push for a winner but time was not on their side and the game resulted in a draw.
In an excellent game the Vikings showed a lot of character and determination to achieve a well earned draw and a valuable point.
