Match Report

Vikings were keen to impress after a good showing last week and were quick to apply some early pressure. An run and cross from Lewis Gannon was met sweetly on the volley by Harry Griffin whose effort just curled round the post. The Vikings continued to press and were soon rewarded with their first goal. It was debutant Alex Baggaley who broke through the middle of the Jets defence and was just about to pull the trigger when he was brought down for a penalty. Callum Holmes stepped up to confidently slot the ball home making it 1-0. James Tarr was having an excellent game in midfield and it wasn’t long before he delivered a sweet left foot chip into space for Callum Holmes who once again delivered the finish the through ball deserved giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead going into half time.

The second half saw the Vikings start where they left off and it wasn’t long before Holmes this time became the provider, crossing a ball in for Tarr whose shot went over the bar. The Vikings were really on top on now with Alexander Hughes, Elliot Booth and Tiernan McDonald holding the defence steady and stand-in goal keeper Zach Moss stopping anything that came his way. The inevitable third goal soon came when a brilliant clearance from Elliot Booth found hot shot Holmes who made no mistake to claim a well deserved hat trick.

The Vikings were unstoppable now with Holmes hitting the post and a great shot from Harry Griffin going just wide. The fourth goal came courtesy of a Jets defender who turned the ball into his own net after a scintillating run and cross from Lewis Gannon down the right wing. Minutes later Gannon nearly got on the score sheet himself only to be beaten by the woodwork. Credit to the Jets who continued to work and were nearly rewarded but their shot just went wide of the diving Moss for a goal kick.

The Vikings got a fifth when once again Callum Holmes was on hand to turn in an excellent cross from Matthew Etchells to take his tally for the game to 4. Late on Tiernan McDonald had a great shot saved as the Vikings pushed for another goal.

It was another great team performance from Vikings.
