Match Report
With both teams battling for 3rd place in the league this was always going to be a tight encounter, however it the Vikings who started brightly playing against the wind. A neat pass from Callum Holmes set Alex Baggaley through whose shot just went agonisingly past the post. The same two combined well again and with Baggaley about to pull the trigger, a last ditch tackle from a Centurian defender denied the Vikings the opening goal. It wasn’t long though before they managed to open their account when Baggaley turned a defender inside the box and was subsequently brought down for a penalty. Callum Holmes stepped up to smash the ball into the corner to put the Vikings one up. The Centurians were putting on the pressure and using the wind to their advantage but some stout defending from Tiernan McDonald and Elliot Booth kept them at bay. Joe Turner and Lewis Gannon were solid in midfield helping their defenders but the Centurians managed to pull level when the wind caught a cross and the ball drifted into the net to make it 1-1.
The second half saw the Vikings with the wind at their backs and it wasn’t long before they took advantage of it. A Centurians clearance fell to Callum Holmes just inside of their half who watched the bounce before unleashing a thunderbolt of a shot which flew into the top corner to give the Vikings a deserved lead. A third goal soon followed when good pressure from Holmes resulted in him nicking the ball off a defender giving him a one on one with the keeper. As he slotted the ball past the keeper it looked as though his effort was going wide when Zach Moss appeared from the left to redirect the ball into the net making it 3-1.
Centurians continued to push forward however Alexander Hughes was holding the midfield together well and with Callum Snook sweeping everything up behind him they were getting no joy. They did manage to break through the Vikings defence but Jackson Baker in goal was on hand to produce a stunning save to keep the score at 3-1.
A great team performance once again by the Vikings earning them another valuable three points.
